CaneLink provides the option to grant your parent(s) or other individuals, known as delegates or proxies, access to your information. We recommend that your grant access to anyone who manages your tuition payments. Students control what's shared and can make changes anytime.

Student Instructions:

You control your information.

The process of creating and maintaining a proxy account is controlled by you. You must grant approval for all proxies and you can select which services proxies may access on your behalf. In order for this to happen, you must navigate to Canelink.

Click on the ‘Proxy Delegation’ tab located on the right-hand side of the page. This page will identify individuals to whom you have provided access to your student information. You will use this page to provide access to new proxies. You are also able to modify and delete existing delegate access.

Note: Completing the “Terms and Conditions” is required prior to providing access to your student record information to your proxy.

After accepting the terms and conditions relating to the Federal Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), you will be able to complete the information required and select which transactions your proxy can access. You have the ability to select one, some, or all of the sharable information under ‘Transaction Name’.

When the ‘Save’ button is clicked, you will be notified that an email will be sent to your proxy affirming that access has been granted.

After clicking the ‘OK’ button, a confirmation is posted indicating that the process was successful.

At this point in the process, you will be able to see the status of your actions on your 'Proxy Delegation' summary page. Notice that the status of the transaction is “submitted” and the Contact Status for the proxy is “unknown.” This will change once the proxy has completed and submitted all of the required information.

Proxy Instructions:

It’s all about the student.

For new proxies, the process for creating and maintaining a proxy account in CaneLink is controlled by the student. Once they grant access, the process for the Proxy is simple and straightforward. Students navigate to Canelink and click on the "Proxy Delegation” to register a proxy for their student record. Proxies will be notified of this access to the Proxy Homepage through an email sent to an address provided by the student during the registration process. The email will outline what types of student records information the Proxy has been granted which could consist of:

  1. UM Financial Aid Information
    • Please note - Financial Aid information for the 2020-2021 academic year and beyond is not available for proxies to access online. Please ask your student to share their information with you.
  2. UM Billing and Payments Information
  3. UM Grade and Transcript Information

When you receive this email you will be provided with instructions to complete the process. These will include directions for accessing the CaneLink system and the terms and conditions you must follow when accessing someone else’s information. (If you are expecting receipt of this email and don’t see it, check your “Junk E-mail.”)
